I have had the same "bon appetit" cup at work for years. and over the years i've drank alot of different things out of it (tea, water, soup, etc). As result, there have been some stains on the inside of the cup despite my daily washing. My mom soaked it and scrubbed it down about a year ago because she got annoyed but i haven't done anything to it since then.
Then yesterday, I had accidentally left my cup in the workroom/kitchen and someone must have thought it was dirty and threw it in the dishwasher. To my surprise this morning, my cup was spanken white with no dark spots in sight. pure white.
My cup is SOOO CLEAN !! [Squeak Squeak]

... which begs the question, exactly how were you washing the cup before, anyhow?
I find that tea stains in the cup are the hardest to get out. It really takes a hard scrub to get out, and my dishwasher (back when I had one in the old apartment) couldn't hack it.
Ben: with my little hands!
I wash it every morning at work but never bothered to get the stain out. and yes, tea stains are a pain, especially herbal teas.
Earl: aren't you glad the tea cups i got you are black?
