I went to the new Aberdeen Centre this weekend and shopped at the popular Daiso. OMGoodness, this place is heavenly. I love it. It has everything.
When i walked in, i didn't know what to do with myself because i wanted to look at everything ! It was so wonderful. Everything was so interesting, especially since most of the gizmos only had japanese writing on them, so it was even more fun trying to figure what something was for. Then, there are also the things that i had always wanted that could never find before, all for a whopping 2 dollars. This place really has everything. Cute little stationary and boxes...love the boxes, all sorts of cooking utensils, wine holders, blotting papers for men and women, ready made curtain fabrics, sandwich warmer (as oppose to a cooler, but opposite, --lack of a better word but you understand right?), in addition to japanese china among millions of other things.
Daiso is the Louis Vutton of the more traditional dollar shops you find these days.
There is one product that i still can't figure out. It appears to be a white plastic pouch with this half circle thing (like a crepe). There was a cartoon picture on it, with a man driving with his family and there was a thinking bubble from him saying "WC". I am guessing the cartoon man is on some sort of road trip and he has to go pee pee. Okay, I thought, this must be a diaper thing for adults or s/t. I inspected it and it seem too thin to hold any liquid. I flipped the package over and there were more pictures. Now the cartoon man looks like he is smelling the pouch. Alright, could it be that the man is spitting into the pouch, making it a car-sickness/puking bag. If that is so, (since it would be consistent with the whole WC thing) then what is the crepe thing for??. This product totally puzzled me. That's it, i am bringing my japanese friend next time.
The new Aberdeen Centre, as a whole, is pretty impressive. I love the interior design of it. It has high ceilings with large circular sun roofs and its so spacious, from the parking lot to inside the mall (that right, I said roomy parking lots). Compared to the Crystal mall at Metrotown, its like night and day. The Aberdeen food court is also very contemporary and it doesn't have the sterile feel of other food courts. The court faces a wide floor-to-ceiling window with views Yaohan and surrounding buildings. I even saw planes land. The washrooms are a delight as well, you don't have to lift a finger other than the door to your stall since its equipped with automatic flusher, tap, and soap dispenser!. They might as well have installed conveyer belts like they had on the Jetsons to move people around. There are a couple of stores that are open for business, but most of the mall is still under construction. There is also this great clothing store, where everything fits me perfectly (all asian cut and sizing), but unfortunately, everything was way way over priced. All in all the architecture reminds me of YVR.
My shopping experience ended with me buying the following:
Purse
girly makeup stuff
4 authentic japanese cups. oh so pretty !!
