Why do guys like ordering wine during dinner? What is the appeal?

When I order wine, with dinner it is because:
1. I find the flavour complements the meal.
2. I like a light buzz without being drunk.
3. I like the social aspect of having a reason to sit for a while after the meal to talk and laugh with friends. I find wine drags out the meal.
As for guys in general, I don't know.

Hmm, I can't see a reason why one would be completely against it. I doubt it's only guys because I know women who order wine at dinner also. Like Matt was mentioning, it lightens the mood at dinner. Kinda like the saying, "drink to remember, not to forget" and how it applies to having good times. Make a nice dinner even nicer.
It could be associated to how you're brought up and what you see others do. If I were a redneck, I'd have no problems ordering a pitcher of Coors to go with my fried chicken and ribs. So maybe some people order wine to show distinction. It sounds silly, but perhaps it's a subtle way of saying to the woman, "I'm a man and not a boy who drinks cheap beer."
